FWQAL Block #2 Autumn Tints

I completed block number 2 from the Farmer's Wife Quilt-a-long.

These are the fabrics I chose. They are all fabrics from Anna Maria Horner's Innocent Crush line and also from her line of solid fabrics. You can find all of her fabrics on her website... www.annamariahorner.com.

Here are the templates I'll need:

FWQAL Block #1 Attic Window

I finally got my hands on my book and all of my fabrics and got going on this quilt. I am so excited!

I am going in the order that the blocks are in the book, therefore I started with Block #1 called Attic Window.

I had to cut out all of the templates. I did this onto old folders.

Here is the block all put together! I quickly realized that I do need to be a bit more precise with my cutting next time:

Nothing a little trimming can't take care of. I trimmed up this block to measure 6.5 x 6.5. I think that I really like it:

What do you think? Am I on the right track?

Bento Binding - Phase 1

Could it possibly take me any longer to finish a quilt? I am still a newbie, so I attribute my slowness to that. I am also super indecisive and take weeks to decide on backing and binding and quilt patterns, all of which really halt the process.

Does anyone out there actually plan out their quilt from start to finish? Do you find that you still change your mind after you've started?

Anyway...as I was saying...binding.

I don't know why, but I always start sewing the binding on after I've pinned it all, but then as I'm sewing, I take all of the pins out and just don't use them. Whatever works, I guess!

All sewn on and ready to be finished! I really want to try hand sewing the binding, but the last time I tried hand sewing it on, I swore it would be the last. I just did a truly terrible job. Any advice out there? Mine always look SLOPPY!

I got it, I got it!

It finallllyyyyy arrived in the mail! Yay!

Like a good little quilter, I read the preface. Then I promptly follow the instructions and printed out the entire packet that came with the CD.

(Wow... a slight waste of paper. I didn't want to alter the PDF's in case it would ruin the template, but it hurt my feelings a bit to use all this paper)

(I have my glorious stack of 106 templates ready to be cut out)

So I gathered up all of my supplies, sat down, and got ready for lotssss of cutting up:

(Permanent markers to write the template number on each template, scissors, the stack of 106 templates, baggies to store the templates, and old scrap manilla folders, and a pen for tracing)

Originally, I had every intention of sitting down tonight with the entire stack of templates and all of the supplies and making every single one of the templates. Umm... after 1, 2, & 3 I wanted to give up already. I can't stand sitting down that long. So I decided that it would be wise and not make me angry if I just cut out the templates that I need for the blocks I am doing that specific week. Doesn't that sound better?

Want to know something really sad? So, I got the book today. As you've seen in my past posts, I have all of my prints picked out already and they are waiting to go. The only thing missing is the AMH solids I have been waiting for. Well, good news is that they were delivered today! YAY!

Oh wait, no, my husband had to work late tonight and he has the key to our mailbox, so as of 9:00 PM (right now) he is still not home. I am staring longingly out our apartment window at the mailbox wishing it would just open itself. What a lesson in patience. I should also point out the fact that I rationalized skipping the gym because I would be home quilting, and instead I've been eating. Ahhh, fail.

My First Sampler

In my post about the Farmer's Wife QAL I mentioned that I started a sampler quilt a while back (I think August of 2009) and just stumbled across it again recently.

This was the 2nd quilt that I ever started. I don't know why I thought it was a good option for a wicked inexperienced quilter. I feel like I'm always in over my head. Oh well, here it is!

Here are some of the individual blocks that I liked the best ...

 (Card Trick)

(I can't remember what this block is called, but I will call it a God's Eye block because it looks an awful lot like those crafts we used to do as kids with popsicle sticks and yarn)

(Some type of star block, no idea which one though)

(This is a foursome of Spool blocks)

 (Another card trick block)

 (A drunkard's path block)

 (Some type of star block)

Another shot of the quilt. I actually have the back all pieced and ready to go, I should probably get on that.

Farmer's Wife Quilt Fabrics

I came home from work last night to find a package from Hawthorne Threads waiting at my doorstep! Yess! I ordered prints from Anna Maria Horner's new LouLouthi line to base my Farmer's Wife Quilt on. I am so excited, these prints are fantastic!

Opening the package...

Showing off the fabric:

(Do all cats want to sit on everything you own?)

 (Don't these fabrics look juicy???)

The fabrics I am using from the Innocent Crush line:

Then I decided to play around with some fabric combos. Keep in mind that I still have the solids from AMH that I ordered to compliment these prints...

WOOOHOOO! I cannot wait to get started. I am just waiting on my book and some solids and I will get going soon! The book should arrive by June 25th (ahh!) so stay tuned!

I just thought that I'd give you a little peak into our garden pickings this morning....mmmmmmmmm!
