Patchworking It

Two of my good friends from college got married and subsequently got pregnant, wooohooo! HOWEVER, they were essentially a quilters least favorite pregnant couple ever because they decided to wait until the baby was born to learn the sex of said baby.

I can only channel my inner Stephanie Tanner ... "How rude!"

It wasn't long after the birth when the couple announced the arrival of their little baby girl.

It was almost instantaneously that I started pulling out some fabrics from the stash to whip up a little bitty baby quilt. I cut these sumptuous Anna Maria Horner flannels from her Folksy Flannels collection into 6 inch squares and played around with a layout or two.

Once I laid them all out, I realized the resulting quilt was way too small. So I grabbed some plum colored linen and cut as many 6 inch squares as I could to make a checkerboard pattern and I really loved the result. Adding the the darker plum fabric really made the other prints POP!

I wasn't sure exactly how to quilt this little baby quilt. I am a little over straight-lines for right now, and I also wanted a quilting pattern that would keep the quilt soft, and not super stiff like straight line quilting or full-on stippling would do.

Sooo, I tried out this little loopi-loop (very technical term). After a few practice rounds on some scrap fabric, I ended up quilting the quilt and really loving the outcome.

I backed and bound the quilt in that same plum colored linen fabric that I used for the patchwork squares. I had some leftover from previous projects that I wanted to use up, and I really just LOVE the way it makes those super colorful Anna Maria Horner prints POP! I also really like the weight and durability it gives to this baby quilt that will get a ton of use (hopefully)!

Quilt Stats:
- The finished quilt measures ~25x30 inches and is the perfect size for a stroller quilt
- The prints are Anna Maria Horner flannels from her Folksy Flannels collection
- The solid is a Plum 100% Linen from Joann's (sorry)
- The quilt is backed and bound in the plum linen as well
- I bound the quilt with machine

Also, this is another item off of My Bucket List. I really wanted to work make a patchwork quilt, and this is my first patchwork squares quilt! See My Finished Projects as well as My Flickr page for other projects.

A Herringbone Quilt

Herringbone quilts have been floating around blogland for a while now, and I just can't get enough!

There are seemingly tons of different methods of making this quilt. There are also a million different quilts out there to envy.

Like this scrappy one:

After ooooohhing and aaahhhhing  all of these herringbone quilts, I had to get started on one. Also, I am still waiting for a new foot to finish my My Sweet Charli quilt related projects.

I did a rough outline/pattern for this quilt. Wasn't sure what to expect really, I was just hoping that it would all work out as I had planned and that I didn't make any stupid mistakes.

I plan to give this crib size quilt as a present to a coworker who just had a baby. I tried to make it as boy-ish as possible given fabric I already had laying around. These are the fabrics that planned to work with.

Lots of cutting later ...

And some stitching .... very tricky stitching I might add ...

More herringbone quilting to come!

My Sweet Charli Quilt

< NOTE> I had a wonderfully long post all written and everything, and then blogger crapped out on me and I really hate hate hate repeating myself, so this will be short

Remember this little lady?

Well, Chris and I were recently asked to be her Godparents. Lucky us! Mommy and baby will be visiting us at our new house for almost 2 whole weeks soon (note to self - baby can walk now, so clean the house!)

I was trying to think of what to get Miss Charli as our first Godparent gift. I asked Tricia if she had picked out a twin bed set yet, and if not, could I make her one. She happily obliged! I sent her over to Hawthorne Threads to pick out any fabric she wanted.  She picked the Parisville Collection by Tula Pink in the Pomeranate Palette. Conveniently, I already had one fat quarter at home. Woohoo.

So, here is my plan. I have been in love this Flea Market Fancy Quilt made by one of my favorite bloggers, Angela @ Fussy Cut ever since the moment I saw it. I mentioned my love for that quilt to another blogger friend, and she said that Angela actually has a free tutorial on the quilt. I said Say Whaaaaaaaaat? I had no idea. I am a pretty regular blog stalker, I have no idea how I missed this tutorial.

What do you think about that quilt with all of these gorgeous fabrics?

All cut up according to the tutorial instructions:

This is the OTHER stack of fabric I bought. You see, I have grand plans of making a twin bed SET. Meaning, 2 matching pillow cases and a pillow sham. So I bought all of these coordinating prints.

(Don't you LOVE LOVE LOVE the backing fabric?)

(This should say Pillow Case No. 1)
(Now that I look at pillow case #2, i think that the fabrics should be reversed. What do you think?)

As noted below, I really have no idea what I bought this fabric for. Hmm....I wonder what else I could make for little Charli's bedroom.

What do you think of the plan? Do you like it?
